Welcome to MATH 231 online

This is the main course website for Dr. Taalman’s online class sections of MATH 231-01, MATH 231-03, MATH 231-07, and MATH 231-12 at James Madison University in Fall 2020. This course is primarily for STEM majors who are required to take a rigorous calculus course and want to level up their precalculus and algebra background along the way.

Dr. Taalman

Mathematics and Computational Design

Laura Taalman is a Professor of Mathematics at James Madison University whose published work includes research in algebraic geometry, knot theory, and games, nationally published Calculus textbooks, and puzzle books. Dr. Taalman is also the founder of the JMU 3SPACE classroom, the first general education 3D printing classroom in the country, and works under the name “mathgrrl” as a computational 3D designer and strategist. She is a Project NExT Fellow, a recipient of the Alder Award, Trevor Evans Award, and SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award, and has been featured on Thingiverse, Adafruit, and Science Friday.
